George Michael released Faith his debut solo album in 1987 with several songs dominating the Billboard charts for the next two years. Faith is considered one of the Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of the Year and really showcased the writing and musical talents of George Michael.
Graduating from the pop melodies of his Wham! days, George Michael showed a gift for big band jazzy tunes such as Kissing a Fool and more R&B and funk influences in songs like “One More Try” and “I Want Your Sex”.
I never minded being thought of as a pop star. People have always thought I wanted to be seen as a serious musician, but I didn’t, I just wanted people to know that I was absolutely serious about pop music.
With this album he was able to create a ‘bad boy’ image while also stretching his musical genres and really beginning to develop his own style of music.
